Mobile App Testing includes several messages shown to respondents at different stages of the study. The default messages work well, but if needed, they are fully customizable.

This section covers how to use the Messages tab to:

  • Customize the Privacy information & Consent message
  • Write a clear Welcome message
  • Write a clear Thank you message
  • Write clear Instructions
  • Write a clear Closed message
  • Hide unneeded messages

Ask for respondents’ consent, welcome them to your study, guide them through the process, thank them properly, and more…

Adjust the study messages

Adjust the study messages

Most messages in a Mobile App Testing study are fully customizable. You can use this to give respondents custom instructions, to localize the study for different languages or to adjust the messaging to fit your branding.

UXtweak may collect personal information from users on your or your company’s behalf. In compliance with GDPR, users from the European Union are shown privacy information and asked for their consent before beginning the study.

All fields here are optional. You can adjust the privacy information in the following ways:

  • Company or study conductor’s name – Lets respondents know who is responsible for the collected data. Most likely the name of your company or your own name. If left empty, “the person or company who shared this study with you” will be displayed in the place of your name.
  • Company or study conductor’s web address – Insert a link that respondents can click to visit your website and learn more about you or your company.
  • Data Processing Agreement URL – If you set up your study to collect personal data, we recommend downloading and signing our DPA (Data Processing Agreement). You can then add a link to a signed copy of the DPA here. If this field is left empty, the Data Processing Agreement isn’t shown.
  • Custom message – You can customize the second half of the Privacy Information & Consent message. The default message states: ‘UXtweak does not record or process sensitive information, such as passwords or credit card numbers. UXtweak will never share your data with third parties.’

Write a clear Welcome message Copy link

  • The Welcome message is the first thing that respondents see.
  • The goal of the message is to introduce respondents to Mobile App Testing and tell them what to expect.
  • A good Welcome message is brief, friendly, and explains the purpose of the study.

The Welcome message should:

  • Contain a polite greeting and a thank you.
  • Explain how participating in the study will help you (e.g., ‘It will help us organize the content on our website.’).
  • Provide an estimate of how long the study will take to complete (e.g., ’10 to 15 minutes’).
  • Include any other information that is important to know before the study begins (e.g. introduction of your company to get respondents into the right frame of mind).

Write clear Instructions Copy link

A Mobile App Testing study contains several guiding messages. These fixed messages are placed throughout the study to ensure respondents always have the necessary information to complete the Mobile App Testing study and receive it at the right time (e.g., reminding them to enable Do Not Disturb mode to prevent recording private notifications or explaining how to switch between the UXtweak App and your testing app, website, or prototype).

The Instructions message can be enabled if you need to provide respondents with additional custom instructions. These instructions are shown to respondents before tasks begin.

If you want to add your own instructions, make sure to:

  • keep the instructions brief and easy to understand
  • keep the instructions structured in a list
  • present the instructions in the right order

Write a clear Thank you message Copy link

  • Thank respondents for their help.
  • Clearly state that the study is over and that respondents can close the window or leave the page.
  • Include any additional information if needed (e.g., if you want respondents to take further action after the study).

Set a redirect URL if you want respondents to be directed elsewhere (e.g., your website) after completing the study.

Write a clear Closed message Copy link

This message is shown to anyone who opens the study after it has ended and can no longer participate.

  • Apologize and thank them, but clarify that participation is no longer possible.
  • Provide a way to contact you in case a participant with access to the study should still be allowed to participate.
  • If they can participate in future studies, let them know how to stay in touch.
  • Set a redirect URL if you want respondents to be directed elsewhere (e.g., your website) after this message.

Hide unneeded messages Copy link

  • In the options, you can disable the Welcome message and Instructions.
  • Disable the Welcome message if the respondents have already received an explanation of the study.
  • Disable Instructions if you’ve already provided respondents with instructions outside the study or if they are already familiar with Mobile App Testing.
